retiring

There's a new idea
it's called retirement
and it's something that
old people do.
generally for and by themselves
this idea isolates the leadership
and gifts and memories and
perspectives from us.

there's these new places
they're called old folks homes
and they're places that
old people go.
generally so that families
don't get burned out by taking
care of the people that they love
the parents, aunts, uncles, cousins
who bring meaning to life

these ideas and places are new
so new.
what does this say about the
embedded priorities of the
dominant culture?
